“LORD, I continue to ask for help. When will you listen to me? I cried to you about the violence, but you did nothing! People are stealing things and hurting others. They are arguing and fighting. Why do you make me look at these terrible things? The law is weak and not fair to people. Evil people win their fights against good people. So the law is no longer fair, and justice does not win anymore.”Habakkuk 1:2-4 ERV
When you feel defeated and unable to understand the things happening to you, do you run to drugs, alcohol, other vices, or do you go to God? That sounds so holy, doesn’t it?
The old Southern hymns say, “Take everything to God in prayer.” But do you?
I would love to raise my hand and say, “I do!” However, I would not be honest with you or myself because when life bangs me around, I do what everyone else does: I worry. I get upset, I get distracted, and I usually complain before I remember where my help comes from.
I love the Lord so much, and yet I still fail Him regularly by trying to solve things that I know He has already arranged. I know God. I have seen Him handle my life with care and precision, and then boom, I forget for a time and become lost and distracted.
I have seen Him move mountains. I’ve seen Him part seas, not on TV, but in my own life. So tell me why I’m sitting here drowning in fear and confusion about the things I am currently facing.
Crazy. That’s why.
I turned to the Lord, and I saw His reply to Habakkuk. The very first line says, “The Lord answered me.”
“I will stand like a guard and watch. I will wait to see what the LORD will say to me. I will wait and learn how he answers my questions. The LORD answered me, ‘Write down what I show you. Write it clearly on a sign so that the message will be easy to read. This message is about a special time in the future. This message is about the end, and it will come true. Just be patient and wait for it. That time will come; it will not be late. This message cannot help those who refuse to listen to it, but those who are good will live because they believe it.’”Habakkuk 2:1-4 ERV
Reading this helped me see how foolish I had been. This passage reminds me that God hears me. He hears my cries, and He has made plans for my future. Just as He told Jeremiah, He has plans to give me a future and a hope.
I hope you will take a page from my book and surrender to the Lord. Trust Him with your situation. Has He not proven Himself to you over and over again? Has He not been your strong tower in the past? Has He not loved you unconditionally?
If you are willing, join me in trusting Him.
“Trust the LORD completely, and don’t depend on your own knowledge. With every step you take, think about what he wants, and he will help you go the right way. Don’t trust in your own wisdom, but fear and respect the LORD and stay away from evil. If you do this, it will be like a refreshing drink and medicine for your body.”Proverbs 3:5-8 ERV
When you see me humming those old Southern hymns, join me.
“Take everything to God in prayer.”
