“After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly.”

I have been reflecting on what Pentecost means for me as a believer. In my understanding, it marks the day the Holy Spirit came down upon the followers of Jesus Christ — a moment recorded in the book of Acts.

“When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.”
Acts 2:1–4 NIV

Do you remember the day you were first filled with the Holy Spirit? I can’t recall the first or the last time, but I know that when it happens, it feels almost like an out‑of‑body experience — something beyond natural explanation. What I do know is this: the Holy Spirit does more than make you shout, dance, or rejoice. The Holy Spirit should also make you humble. It should open your heart to forgiveness. It should grieve you when you act against its leading.

Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to us, and my hope is that you remain open and welcoming to His presence.

“But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”
