When U Pray

It's not how you Pray, it's When U Pray

  • Please read below as Angela Bowman share how she fought like a girl with her beautiful angel Amauri… 🎀🎀
Hello, my name is Angela Bowman and in July of 2010 my daughter Amauri Jones was diagnosed with Large B-Cell Lymphoma. It took a while for us to realize that Amauri was sick because she was such a vibrant little girl. If it was not for the fact that Amauri’s belly was the size of a little basketball, we would have never known that she was sick with Cancer. She received her treatment at the Children Hospital at the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor.

This came as a total shock for my family and I. We had dealt with a family member battling cancer, but not a child, so this was very devastating for us. Amauri was only 3 at the time of her diagnosis, so all she had an understanding of was that she was sick, doctors were going to make her better, but she had to lose her hair in the process. She was a very brave little girl, because she was okay with that as long as her hair was going to grow back. I knew from that moment that I had no choice but to be as strong and brave as she was.
It was going to take about 6 months for Amauri to fight her battle, but there was hope that at the end, she would be cancer free. As I watched my daughter go through her treatments, it became a little easier to cope with because she was so strong to be so small and battling something so big. Even though we were in the hospital for six months, she did everything any other 3 year old would do. She made friends, did a lot of art and crafts, and she also meet a lot of important people from the University of Michigan. Amauri was so full of life during this time, I had no choice but to be as strong as her, and at the end of her treatment, we were excited to know that she had won her battle.
Amauri was cancer free for about a year, in April of 2012, she was diagnosed with Leukemia during a routine checkup. This again took me for a total shock because she showed no symptoms, her 5th birthday was 4 days away, and during her doctor appointment I was offered a position at Chrysler through email. I was more upset this time because Amauri was doing so good and our lives seemed to be going so much better. When I had to break the news to Amauri that we weren’t going back home for a while, it was the hardest thing I ever had to do. Because she was in school, making friends, and had just been through so much, but my baby girl handled it like a Champ!
This treatment was a little different from the first round. After three months of treatment, the Leukemia was in remission but Amauri had to have a Bone Marrow transplant in order to make sure the cancer did not continue to return. In July she was blessed with a match Bone Marrow donor, and my family was super excited as none of us was a match.
During all Amauri treatments you would have never known that she was battling cancer or even had just went through a transplant. Amauri’s body rejected the first transplant, so her donor donated again for her in September, but before her body could accept the marrow, she came down with pneumonia. My happy, sassy, full of life baby, now just slept 21 hours of the day. As bad as I hurt watching my baby fight and not be able to help her was the hardest thing as a parent I ever had to do.
On October 13, 2012, Amauri l won the ultimate victory over Cancer. I prayed for her healing and God said “don’t worry I’ll take over from here.” This was the hardest day of not only my life, but our whole family lives as well. We knew Amauri had fought a great fight and was now in a better place. As little as she was, she impacted so many lives, and her memory will forever live on. Amauri most definitely “Fought like a Girl!”

  • Please read below as Meleah Denson explain how she fought like a girl with her sister through her diagnosis of breast cancer….🎀
“And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose” Rom 8:28. I’ve have had that scripture book marked and highlighted for years. It has been somewhat of a safety net in times of struggle and uncertainty, but I had never actually tested how strong that safety net was until February 2013 when my big sister Daneka was diagnosed with Stage 4 Metastatic Breast Cancer.

Hearing the doctor speak those words to my family was like being underwater. I faintly heard bits and pieces of what was being said, but I was overwhelmed and fighting not to sink into fear, sorrow and disappointment. My sister was an otherwise healthy 34 year old. I just could not wrap my mind around why someone so young was hit with such an aggressive cancer. It was unfair and just wrong. I won’t deny I felt anger and resentment towards God, but while I prayed and released my feelings to Him, He reminded me once more that all things work together for the good of those who love Him. I definitely could not understand why my sister and family was chosen to endure this particular situation, but I had to trust that my Father would look out for me. Like Job I had to decide that no matter what my life looks like or what I go through God is still good and I have to always trust Him.

That’s a hard attitude to adopt when you go from being able to go to your sister for any and everything and being able to rely on her, to her relying on you. My family rallied around my sister and together we gave her all the support she needed. I was with my sister everyday during her fight, right up until she decided to end her fight on Earth and continue it in heaven on June 12, 2015.

Although my heart wept for the loss of my sister, my spirit was comforted in knowing that there will always be a “good” that manifests from every situation. That “good” may not be manifested for years, but knowing that my sister’s life and fight with cancer was not meaningless helps me hold on to hope and remember her with pride. Watching my sister fight her cancer the way she did stirred something in me. Despite what she was faced with, she refused to give up and when God told her the fight was to be taken up a different way, she didn’t groan or complain, she trusted her assignment. Her relationship with God during her crisis inspired me to reevaluate mine. As I watched my sister love God no matter what, it caused everyone around her to do the same. Even though her health failed, everyone that knew my sister were drawn to her. Just to sit with her, talk with her, pray with her or laugh with her. Her spirit was infectious and lifted everyone around her. As I continue to love and trust God I know my relationship with Him was made stronger because of the inspiration I drew from Daneka. She was nothing short of amazing.

In her own words found in her journal a few months after she transitioned, “This has been the most frightening thing that I have had to experience. I choose to fight this fight with a smile on my face because I know who is in control and I have faith in Him.” My prayer is that as I endure and wait for the “good” that is to come about from my sister’s fight, that someone else who struggles as they wait will be inspired to continue to trust and love God. Know that your good is already worked out and on its way. 🎀

  • In our 2nd week of the Fight like a girl series. We have the daughter of Shaun Davis. Please read below how her life was affected when her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer… 🎀

Hi my name is Kailani Davis daughter of Fernando and Shaun Davis and this is my story of how I felt when my mother was diagnosed with Breast Cancer.
In October of 2013, my mother told my father and I that she has Breast Cancer, Stage One. It made me sad because we played and had fun as a family. But my mother couldn’t do those things any more.

I felt scared because I thought my mom was not going to live, because my grandmother had passed away 2 year prior, when I was in the third grade she too had Breast Cancer.

My mother had surgery on her right breast, she had 4 chemotherapy treatments, which made her very sick, pale and weak. She lost all of her hair and then had to do 32 radiation treatments for 5 weeks. Throughout all her struggles I never seen my mother sad, in fact 5 days after the cancer was removed in surgery, and she was released from the hospital, she continue to take her college courses and received her Associates Degree in Medical Billing.

My mother has this saying, that she had put on the back of her coat, “I’m not just a Survivor, I’m more than a Conqueror” – Romans 8:37.

My mother Shaun Davis is a 2 year Breast Cancer Survivor. It was a struggle for us but we all made it by the Grace of God.

  • Please join WhenUPray this month as we feature testimonies from women that have been diagnosed with Cancer. This week guest is Tonja. We love her so much. She doesn’t even know that her strength and fight during this time encourages us with the little things we are dealing with. She still encourage others and constantly has a smile on her face. She’s so dope!!  Please read and understand what she is going through and how she is Fighting Like a Girl throughout this test. With God on her side she is UNSTOPPABLE!!!!❤️🎀

My name is Tonja Shellman. Many of you may know me as Tonja Harden or Tonja Rison. In December I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I have been openly sharing my story with the world because I see it as an opportunity to encourage and inspire others who are faced with with this awful disease. So many people look at it as a death sentence. I don’t. I look at it as God’s way of telling me I’m no different than anyone else. Why me? Why NOT me? He has given me a platform to share my story and show others how to hold your head high, not be ashamed, and face adversity with dignity and grace. Through this journey my faith has been tested and strengthened. There is no greater love than the love of God, family and true friends. I have encountered some AMAZING ppl along the way…from the doctors & nurses at Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute, to my awesome church family at First Community Baptist Church in Detroit. They have been a solid force in my life, encouraging me every step of the way. There is a special person that I’d like to give recognition to. My sister Minetta. Every person going through a serious illness should have someone who is willing to give of themselves unselfishly, who is willing to sacrifice everything for the well-being of their loved one. Minetta has been right by my side EVERY step of the way…from the moment I was diagnosed. I owe her so much! She travels to every chemo appt takes notes, keeps the rest of the family abreast of everything, and is just my overall biggest supporter. I say all this to say cancer does not have to be a death sentence. 80% of it is attitude. The battle is not yours, it’s the Lord’s! Pray, meditate, and cast your cares upon the Lord. He promises to carry you in your time of need. You just have to have the FAITH…don’t believe me just watch! I’ll see you at the end of this journey walking in the breast cancer walk in October suited and booted with my SURVIVOR gear on. 😁 Be blessed Saints! 😘❤😍IMG_0622

  • Are you Judas?
“They were all eating. Then Jesus said, “Believe me when I say that one of you twelve here will hand me over to my enemies.” The followers were very sad to hear this. Each one said, “Lord, surely I am not the one!” Jesus answered, “One who has dipped his bread in the same bowl with me will be the one to hand me over.”

    ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭26:21-23‬ ‭ERV‬‬http://bible.com/406/mat.26.21-23.erv

These past few weeks I was practicing to participate in our Resurrection production at my church. Of course I know the story of Judas and his betrayal. it’s a known fact that to be considered a Judas is a terrible thing, or is it?

Most of us can quote bible scriptures that we hear all the time. If I start by saying “All things work together” most people will know the rest, ” work together to the good for those that love the Lord and are called according to his purpose”. Do you really believe the stuff you quote? The new buzz is the song that goes ” All things are working for my good, he’s intentional”. Do you believe it?
“When Judas took the bread, Satan entered him. Jesus said to Judas, “What you will do—do it quickly!””
    ‭‭John‬ ‭13:27‬ ‭ERV‬‬http://bible.com/406/jhn.13.27.erv
Judas had an assignment that was just as important as Jesus’s. His life was intentional if you believe God at his word. If Judas had failed in his purpose where would we be? Would Jesus had been turned over to the people to be executed if Judas did not betray Jesus? Would someone else had done it? Could it have been you?
If you believe that all things work to the good, that things are intentional in the kingdom; then I have to believe that my positive and my negative actions has ushered someone into thier destiny. I asked could you be Judas? Have you ever betrayed someone you loved? Have you ever told someone business to someone who it was not thier business? Have you lied on someone to save yourself? Or just because?  Have you cheated on your spouse or significant other? Have you slept with a friends significant other? I don’t want anyone to confess to me but the reality is we have all been Judas.
Here is the good news, I’m not condoning sin or betrayal but I also know that “All things work together “. I know that my actions cause a reaction in the people and things in my sphere of influence so, positively or negatively. But the things that are meant for bad, our Lord and Savior can make them for our good.  So yeah Judas betrayed Jesus but somebody had to do it so he could be killed and then resurrected for our sin. Jesus took on Sin so that you could be free and I can too.
Hallelujah amen, he is Risen and I’ve been redeemed by the blood of the lamb. 🙏🏽❤️

  • ““I give you a new command: Love each other. You must love each other just as I loved you. All people will know that you are my followers if you love each other.””‭‭John‬ ‭13:34-35‬ ‭ERV‬‬http://bible.com/406/jhn.13.34-35.erv

Do you love me? Can you love me knowing all my secrets, knowing my past, knowing my mistakes?
Jesus said people will know we are his followers if we love each other. That’s deep because people are not always easy to love.

I wonder if he meant you had to love the man who abused you sexually when you were a child? I wonder if he meant you had to forgive the father or mother who abandoned your family and left your family economically challenged? Do you think he meant you have to forgive the person who used your body and broke your heart? Could he possibly expect you to forgive the person who murdered your child, your brother, your father or even your mother? Oh, my could he expect you to forgive the person who was knowingly or unknowingly sleeping with your spouse and caused destruction in your home? Do You have to love the child that your spouse created outside the marriage? Does he want you to love the person who betrayed you time after time in friendship? Could he really expect you to love all these people?
I think he did! He does not expect you to do it in your own power. God’s love will heal you and his power will allow you to love, even when you don’t want to or can’t believe he would expect you to.
“He heals their broken hearts and bandages their wounds. He counts the stars and knows each of them by name. Our Lord is great and powerful. There is no limit to what he knows.”

    ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭147:3-5‬ ‭ERV‬‬http://bible.com/406/psa.147.3-5.erv

So I challenge you today, Love somebody on purpose today.  Ask God to heal you so You are able to love somebody who hurt you. Don’t do it for me, don’t do it for them, don’t do it for the vine. Do it because Jesus said that is how the world will know we are his people. It won’t be easy but if it was, you would need Jesus.

  • “For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.”‭‭Matthew‬ ‭6:14‬ ‭NIV‬‬

What happen to real friendship? You know the, I’ll have your back no matter what, when you’re down I’ll lift you up, the we in this no matter what you’re going through kind of friendships?
It’s crazy that society has us thinking that soon as somebody does something we don’t like, we need to cut them off. When somebody hurt our feelings they are a hater or not real.

I know I’m guilty at times. If my friends don’t do what I feel they should be doing I would get angry and not talk to them. Tell them about their selves. Or whatever.

But the word says… “Even if they sin against you seven times in a day and seven times come back to you saying ‘I repent,’ you must forgive them.””‭‭Luke‬ ‭17:4‬ ‭NIV‬‬

That’s deep right…. Meaning, give people a chance. If they are your true friend don’t just write them off because they pissed you off. They are human just like you.

Think about all the times you’ve messed up and somebody forgave you. They let it slide when you missed an important event, forgot to call on a birthday, said something you shouldn’t have said.

I know, it’s easier to point out what somebody else is doing wrong. Rather than looking in the mirror and realizing you mess up to at times….

So take it easy on the people you claim to love. Jesus is love and he is very forgiving!! You should be too!!

    Love you ❤️

  • “Since the day we heard these things about you, we have continued praying for you. This is what we pray: that God will make you completely sure of what he wants by giving you all the wisdom and spiritual understanding you need; that this will help you live in a way that brings honor to the Lord and pleases him in every way; that your life will produce good works of every kind and that you will grow in your knowledge of God; that God will strengthen you with his own great power, so that you will be patient and not give up when troubles come. “My brothers and sisters, you will have many kinds of trouble. But this gives you a reason to be very happy. You know that when your faith is tested, you learn to be patient in suffering. If you let that patience work in you, the end result will be good. You will be mature and complete. You will be all that God wants you to be. Do any of you need wisdom? Ask God for it. He is generous and enjoys giving to everyone. So he will give you wisdom. But when you ask God, you must believe. Don’t doubt him. Whoever doubts is like a wave in the sea that is blown up and down by the wind. People like that are thinking two different things at the same time. They can never decide what to do. So they should not think they will receive anything from the Lord.”

  • “I trust God, so I am not afraid of what people can do to me! I praise God for his promise to me.”‭‭Psalms‬ ‭56:4‬ ‭ERV‬‬http://bible.com/406/psa.56.4.erv

It sounds real simple, because it is.

    Dear Father,

I love you, you are a promise keeper, a way maker, a healer and my King. I stand before you this morning in awe of your greatness. I am not asking for much today because I don’t need too. Your word already told me you would supply all my needs. Your word already told me that I was healed, by the blood of your son. Your word already told me that I was set free. Your word already told me that you have plans for me that give me a future and a hope. Your word already told me that you would never forsake me and my seed would not have to beg for bread. Your word already told me to be strong and of good courage. Your word already told me that you keep your promises to me. So this morning I’m just saying hallelujah Amen. My only ask is that you remember that I love you too!

  • “A good attitude will support you when you are sick, but if you give up, nothing can help.”‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭18:14‬ ‭ERV‬‬http://bible.com/406/pro.18.14.erv

    Don’t you dare give up

    Don’t you dare quit

I know it gets hard sometimes, trouble on all side. Bills seem insurmountable, kids are struggling in school, being bullied, undereducated and disrespectful. Work has its uncertainties and your wage barely makes ends meet. Spouses and significant others are struggling with their own issues and trying to help you.

    I know it’s crazy

I know it seems like there is no end in sight but you would be wrong to believe that.

We serve a God who is able

“Lord, I cry out to you for help: “You are my place of safety. You are all I need in life.” Listen to my prayer. I am so weak. Save me from those who are chasing me. They are stronger than I am. Help me escape this trap, so that I can praise your name. Then good people will celebrate with me, because you took care of me.”‭‭Psalms‬ ‭142:5-7‬ ‭ERV‬‬http://bible.com/406/psa.142.5-7.erv

This is not about you, it’s about who is watching you. There is a little boy or girl looking for you to help them understand, looking too see how you handle this. You have this, you can do it.

“We have troubles all around us, but we are not defeated. We often don’t know what to do, but we don’t give up.”‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭4:8‬ ‭ERV‬‬http://bible.com/406/2co.4.8.erv

  • “Friends always show their love. What are relatives for if not to share trouble?”‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭17:17‬ ‭GNTD‬‬http://bible.com/69/pro.17.17.gntd

Are you my friend? Will you love me when I’m unlovable? Will you pray for me and with me? Will you drop everything and come see about me? Will you tell me the truth, in love, and accept the same from me? If so, you might be my friend.

“Some friends are fun to be with, but a true friend can be better than a brother.”‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭18:24‬ ‭ERV‬‬http://bible.com/406/pro.18.24.erv

“As one piece of iron sharpens another, so friends keep each other sharp.”‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭27:17‬ ‭ERV‬‬http://bible.com/406/pro.27.17.erv

Do you talk about me to your other friends? Do you not answer my calls because you are tired of me crying? Tired of me begging, needing you? It’s ok, it happens especially if you don’t love me like you think.

But there is good news, God promised to never leave you, he is not like people, his word can’t come back void.

“So we know the love that God has for us, and we trust that love. God is love. Everyone who lives in love lives in God, and God lives in them.”‭‭1 John‬ ‭4:16‬ ‭ERV‬‬http://bible.com/406/1jn.4.16.erv

I kind of led into this super long post because I was thinking about how I have been hurt in friendships. I think we all take friendships for granted in some ways. We expect our friends to be there no matter what. We often forget that we have not been the friend we expect from others. I always say that my friends know I love them. Hmmm but now I question that. Do they really? I often don’t have a lot of free time, realistically I have a full time job, I run a candle business, a blog and online store, I’m active in my church, I have a husband, a child, 2 grandchildren and I try to workout. I don’t talk on the phone much because I’m usually busy. Looking at all this I probably am not a good friend so does that mean I should not expect one?

All I know is there should be counseling available when you lose a friend. Often times you have shared some of your most private thoughts and feelings and now they don’t talk to you anymore. It’s like a breakup, you ask yourself why? What did I do? Why am I unable to keep a friend. Then you realize, I did. I still have my friends, it’s the people who were never my friends that are gone. Those ones that love me, love me in spite of my busy life but they hang with people who are available .

I guess I can stop whining on this post and remember that God loves me and just maybe, they are not active in my life because I’m not ready for that.

Tell your friends you love them but also show them. Love them on purpose today.

  • “Without faith no one can please God. Whoever comes to God must believe that he is real and that he rewards those who sincerely try to find him.”
    ‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭11:6‬ ‭ERV‬‬

Repeat that last line…. He rewards those who sincerely try to find him….
Now think about how much time you have spent with God lately… I’ll wait.. Seriously think about it…
Not much? Yeah me either. And it’s crazy because we will quickly say. I just don’t have the time.. I’m so sleepy.. I gotta work.. I gotta do this.. I gotta watch this..

But we have checked every single social site possible. Online shopped.. Texted every person we can think of. Called and gossiped about so and so. But yet, we can’t seem to make time for God!! Then we wonder why our lives are in shambles!!

We can’t keep making excuses for not spending time with God! He is not our genie. We can’t just deal with him when we want something. We have to seek him about everything!!

He rewards those who diligently seeks him.
God I’m About to leave the house send your angels before me to set the atmosphere. God I’m heading into work, hold my tongue so I don’t pop off. God my relationship ship is crazy, I need your help. My health is failing.. I need your help.. I’m thinking crazy thoughts… I need your help.. My kids are cutting up.. I need your help. People are leaving my life. I need your help. My faith is weak.. I need your help… But how can he help you if he don’t know you!!!

He rewards those who diligently seek him.

How can we not be in relationship with the man that hold it all. The power to Heal, the power to Mend, the power to Increase and the power to remove and replace. We constantly make time for things that have no meaning. Let’s make a conscience decision to do better. Let’s spend less time being on social media and more time working on our relationship ship with God!!! I’m in, are you?! ❤️

  • I truly don’t care if you never go to church, that is not what this is about.  You never have to join a church,  attend a service or give one dollar to a church, as long as you are willing to accept Jesus as your personal savior.

If you openly say, “Jesus is Lord” and believe in your heart that God raised him from death, you will be saved. Yes, we believe in Jesus deep in our hearts, and so we are made right with God. And we openly say that we believe in him, and so we are saved.
    Romans 10:9-10 ERV
    http://bible.com/406/rom.10.9-10.ERV

Yup , it’s that simple.  Now comes the hard part. You must allow Jesus to be your savior, let him love you,  let him forgive you,  let him in your life.  Talk to him daily; there is no special way,  just open your heart and mind and let him in.

Here is the beautiful part, it’s forever. You won’t get it right the first few times. You will slip up, make mistakes,  revert to your old life, yup you will still be a mess.  But eventually,  little by little you will be changed.  God will keep providing for you,  loving you and working on you.  He will heal the broken places. He will strengthen the areas where you are weak and he will love you through it all.
Yes, I am sure that nothing can separate us from God’s love—not death, life, angels, or ruling spirits. I am sure that nothing now, nothing in the future, no powers, nothing above us or nothing below us—nothing in the whole created world—will ever be able to separate us from the love God has shown us in Christ Jesus our Lord.

So don’t take this to mean you should never go to church because there is something wonderful  about being with a body of believers that are all trusting God.  When the Holy Spirit shows up lives are changed and chains are broken but that’s for later.  For now,  just get down on your knees, shut the world out and let your heart hear from God.

We must not quit meeting together, as some are doing. No, we need to keep on encouraging each other. This becomes more and more important as you see the Day getting closer.

This is really about you getting to know Jesus.😇

  • The church is Christ’s body. It is filled with him. He makes everything complete in every way.
    Ephesians 1:23 ERV

I had several conversations this week with people  who had been in bad relationships and was coming out of the relationshop renewed in Christ. They had been through the storm and God had shown them their worth.  As I spoke with each of them and listened with my spirit I could hear the hurt, the pain and the joy they had found when they discovered this one thing.  They were OK! Yes, they survived bad relationships,  painful seperations, death, destruction, financial ruin, abuse and now they are OK.

Each of us were created by God , in his image and likeness and we lack nothing.  We are born with everything we need inside of us.  What we water grows. If we water our spirit (reading and living by the word ),  it grows.  If we water something outside of us (relationshops, jobs, money),  that is what grows and becomes stronger.

You were created whole, complete and without flaws.

So God created humans in his own image. He created them to be like himself. He created them male and female.

Make a decision today that nothing you come across in your life will be allowed to deplete who you are.  You are complete and only you can allow someone to take what is yours.  So what they call you,  only matters to them.  If they cheat on you,  that is not a reflection of you and your worth,  that is how they feel about themselves. If they abuse you verbally or physically,  it’s a reflection of how they value themself. Remember you were created in God’s image so anything they say about you that does not line up with what God says about you is a lie. So I dare you today to trust the God In You.

God, you give true peace to people who depend on you, to those who trust in you.
